The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice. In addition, the ACPS develops criminal law policy for the province and supports criminal law consultation with other levels of government.
Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) has opportunities for Crown Prosecutors to join our Regional Crown Offices in locations across Alberta. These locations include: Hinton, Slave Lake, Grande Prairie, Peace River, Fort McMurray, Red Deer, St.Paul, Wetaskiwin, Fort Saskatchewan, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge.

Working with the Regional Prosecutions team and representing the Crown, you will conduct criminal litigation in the Provincial Court and in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta.
Applying a strong knowledge of federal and provincial statutes, you will be responsible for the prosecution of a variety of cases. This will involve determining appropriate charges, discussions with defense counsel and other stakeholders.
Utilizing your exceptional verbal and written communication skills, you will prepare legal arguments and opinions as well as provide advice and assistance to peace officers and community agencies.
This opportunity will constantly challenge your proven legal skills, strong decision making skills and your ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Travel will be required.
• Legal Officer 1: $3,125.11 - $3,936.73 bi-weekly
• Legal Officer 2: $4,522.77 - $5,600.88 bi-weekly
• Legal Officer 3: $5,832.47 - $6,467.12 bi-weekly
• Legal Officer 4: $6,337.94 - $6,970.31 bi-weekly
Classification and salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B)/Juris Doctor (JD), active member or eligible for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta with some related legal experience. Experience in prosecutions and/or criminal law is preferred. A valid Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License is a pre-requisite. Travel is required.
It is recommended that applicants who have obtained educational credentials from outside of Canada and have not had them previously assessed, obtain an evaluation of their credentials from the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) -https://www.alberta.ca/iqas.aspx It is recommended that applicants include the assessment certificate from IQAS or any other educational assessment service as part of their application.

Employees located in the 55th to 57th parallel may be eligible for the 55th to 57th Parallel Retention Allowance. Employees that work and reside in Fort McMurray may be eligible for an Attraction Bonus and the Fort McMurray Allowance.
